Toronto is the provincial capital of Ontario and the most popular city in Canada. Toronto is the fastest growing city in North America, and is the anchor of an urban collection, which is known as the Golden Horseshoe in Southern Ontario, located on the northwestern shore of Lake Ontario. It an international center of business, finance, arts, and culture, and it is identified as one of the most multicultural and cosmopolitan cities in the world.

People traveled through and inhabited the Toronto area, situated on a broad sloping plateau held with rivers, deep ravines, and urban forest, for more than 10,000 years. The diverse population of Toronto reflects its present and historical role as an important destination for immigrants to Canada. Toronto is varied in cultural institutions, music, theaters, motion pictures and is home to the media outlets and headquarters of Canada's major national broadcast networks. It is popularly known for its many skyscrapers and high-rise buildings, in particular the tallest free-standing structure in the Western Hemisphere, the CN Tower.
